And it certainly was not downplayed by our World Race contact we met right off the plane. According to him, this would be our best month; if it isn’t, we might have some explaining to do.

Thankfully, there is (almost) literally a basketball court/hoop/contrived basketball apparatus around every corner in the Philippines so I won’t have to do any pretending about this country. These guys love their basketball. And they’re pretty good at it, too.

Several days have already consisted of a few hours of basketball—you’re not going to see THIS guy complaining. We did have something on the line though: for every game we won, the “losers” had to attend a Bible study held by us, and for every game we lost, we had to buy the Filipinos snacks. Needless to say, we have not lost a game (talk about motivation on our side, huh?). The bonus for the “losers”: they ended up still getting some snacks from us anyways (talk about a win/win agreement). Our conversations over Coke revolved around life, love, and basketball…some good topics for a few teenage boys.

I should mention one of the more funny parts about winning in this country: the losers also had to crawl through our legs as a sign of respect.

I am already falling in love with this place…

And a big shout out to our Filipino church friend, Jay, for arranging the games…
