A lot has happened in the last month and half…and it has been GOOD. At the beginning of August, little more than a week after returning from L Squad’s training camp in Atlanta, I visited the most beautiful place on this earth: Deerfoot Lodge (if you want to argue that, we can take it up).

Deerfoot is an all-boys Christian camp in the Adirondack Mountains of New York. “The Lodge”, as we affectionately call it, is a huge part of my testimony—the camp has largely contributed to my faith being a personal relationship, making friends that are now life brothers, and enjoying being men in a wilderness setting. It is one of those special places where boys really do become men.

Deerfoot is also a place where God’s story meets the stories of campers and staff; everytime I go up, there are many adventures, “stories”, that come to mind. This visit was no different, except that being three years removed from my last time on staff, I felt like I had a whole new kingdom perspective to bring to the place. I never thought this would mean spending a full session—two weeks—up there…

But after a short conversation with our camp director, Chief Ron, he asked me to come up for the final session and be a counselor on the Island, the section of camp with the oldest campers (14-16). The Godeeeeem: Deerfoot was graciously able to financially support my time there, and the amount Chief Ron suggested per week is my college loan payment per month. BOOM. Decision made. God doing work.

My time up at DL was exactly what I needed as I prepared for my next season in life on the World Race. Being in fellowship with close brothers + pouring into a number of awesome campers + drinking as much Skiff’s milk as physically possible = living the dream. Thank you to all the staff and campers at Deerfoot that have formed me into the man that I am today—your grace with and the building up of me is a testament to the legacy of Deerfoot.
