The absolute biggest appeal about The World Race for me was running away from comfort into dirty hard adventures.

Why would anyone want to run from comfort?

Well for me the answer is easy … to be closer to Christ.

What do you mean?

If you stop and think hard when is it easiest to feel close to Christ? What are the moments in your life that made you chase after his love, comfort, and truth?

Usually… not always… but usually its at times when you are away from the normal comforts of life, whatever they may be for you.

I was running away from comfort… not because I wanted to embrace dirty hard adventures… but because I was too weak or lazy to search for Christ within my comforts.

Although I didn’t realize that that was my intention or at least a part of it until just this past week in Serbia.

I was so ready so sleep out in the cold next to hundreds of refugees who didn’t understand me and have no other choice but to rely on Christ … but what God had in store for me this month is much much different.

I’m staying at a camp with air conditioning, a full kitchen, a soft bed, 24 hour WiFi, warm showers, and a hot tub to just top it all off. Food is cheap and delicious and my team is amazing.

….. as you can tell this is far away from most expectations of the World Race.

Completely relying on Christ when you are so comfortable is so hard.

Christ not only reveled this to me but also challenged me and caused me to grow because of this.

Being comfortable and growing with Christ is much harder than growing with Christ freezing in the woods with no food and only a bible to cling to.

I wanted the easy way out… the easy way to force myself into a deeper relationship with Christ.

But instead I got comfort.

So not only the challenge for me but also the challenge for you is how are you finding Christ in your comforts?

When you have nothing forcing you into his arms are you still reaching out for them?

Do not wait for the challenges or seek them out… Chase after Christ in your comforts.

This in reality is much harder than holding onto Christ in your challenges. Embrace this challenge and challenge others… do not get lost in your comfort.
