The start of December was a very interesting time. My squad flew into South Africa and then we were split up into male and female groups. All the women went to White River South Africa and partnered with Manna Church. And the men then left for Botswana to the Kalahari Desert to build a new roof for a village church.
We had to buy all our food and water for the 12 days before we even entered the country, which meant that supplies and WiFi was about 2 1/2 hours away. The days were about 97-109 degrees. We slept in our hammocks or tents and basically only had electricity for cooking purposes. (2 electric hot plates cooking for 11 guys) … nailed it.

I was the team chef and it was wonderful to cook for my team. There was a ton of time for bonding, reading, and just meditation.

The roof was torn down in about 2 days and then we began the slow process of building the new one. It was truly wonderful to see the change in the quality of the roof and see the joy that it brought the locals.

I also had the great privilege to do the 10 day New Testament challenge and read through the NT completely while in Botswana. It was amazing to learn and share with my team of guys and bond with them as we grew closer to each other and to God in the middle of the desert.
