I am a ragamuffin. I am a wretch. A God-man named Jesus gave me His life, and to this man I owe my life! Period.
I was born and raised about 20 miles northwest of the Dallas-Fort
Worth metroplex in a small town called Newark, TX. My dad is a pastor,
so I pretty much grew up in a pew. From a religious viewpoint my
outward actions seemed “righteous” as I was growing up, yet my
fallibility was always present. I was baptized at age 12, because that was the age all the other kids got baptized. When I was fifteen I went to a camp called Wild Week in Waco, TX. This is when I realized my life was broken and I needed
the Savior. Over a period of a week different speakers presented the gospel to all of us teenagers at the camp. I had heard the gospel probably thousands of times, but I had never heard it in my soul until this week. Becoming overwhelmed with inexplicable sorrow, I could do nothing else except call on Christ to save me.
Sanctification is an arduous process and I
definitely haven’t been exempt from it. Further into my teenage years I began experimenting with drugs, alcohol and women. This lifestyle perpetuated until I found myself lying in a pile of my own vomit, spiritual and physical. Once again, I came crawling to His throne. Patiently, He was waiting. He received me just as He always does. The following season of gracious faith was one of the deepest I have experienced. Christ hiked me deeper into his being and character.
Soon after this time in my life I was married to a woman. Two and a half years later, she left. Other than my general fallibility, all answers as to why she left were vague. My divorce was the single most painful experience of my life, yet Christ’s grace is abundantly sufficient. Without his faithfulness there is no telling where I would be in life, a drunk, drug addict? Who knows? How thankful I am for His faithfulness and grace! He promised to complete His good work in me! Most of the time I don’t understand what he’s doing, but my job is not to understand. My job is to be as He has called me to be. This is why I am excited to go out into the world professing His love! What else am I to do!? My life has been taken away from me time after time, and for this I am thankful! If I have no life, I can become His life. His life is to ferociously, unrelentingly love God and others. This is my agenda.
