Sorry for the silence over the past couple months the squad has been working in Nepal and India! Two countries where doing religious related work is illegal. So its best for us to keep a low profile and not post much while we’re there.
In both countries my teams were teaching English.
Unfortunately I cant speak much on either of the ministries themselves because that would simply put the “underground” organizations and families at risk.
In both countries the ministries were teaching English to lower caste or “at risk” peoples. English makes education and jobs accessible to people that otherwise shut out The caste system in India and Nepal are both still relevant and damaging. Mostly because of poisonous religious values held by Hindus and Buddhists.
In the west we often times get caught up, trying to separate social justice from the gospel. But to me its encouraging to see that in these countries, Christians are just taking it as an opportunity to “love the least of these”. Not getting tangled in the politics. Just taking the chance to do the gospel. In a country, like India, where “the least of these” is still an applicable term to people groups, its easy to see why Jesus was so passionate about having compassion on the marginalized.
We were able to teach more complicated English concepts while we were around. Help further the teachers in their own English vernacular. Host an English class fair to help the ministry advertise to the community. We tutored children in the community.
It was a great honor to do work in these communities.
Most of these types of ministries are suffering from lack of help and funds to pay for more. Any momentum we can offer them makes our time worth while.
Thank you for all your continued thoughts, prayers and support!
