Do you have something in your life that you know needs to change

but it seems engrained
into who you are?

I’m not talking
about a sin that you’re struggling with.

I’m talking about something that is intertwined with
your personality and lifestyle

Mine
has to do with words.

You see since I was young I have had the insatiable need:

To Be Right.

To give my
opinion
even when it’s not asked for.

To always get the last word.

I have realized that root part
of me that produces the fruit described above is also the same Root
that enables me:
To stand up for what is right. Challenge others
on hard things. To live life with boldness.

So it’s not about changing this part of me as much as it is
about redeeming it and

Attaching it to Love and Service.

God and I have been in this process for a long time now but
especially since 2008.

The way I acted that year caused a lot of brokenness in me and others. (As
detailed in this BLOG)

And I truly began to learn to give up my right to speak all the time and my right to be right.

So after 4
years
of growth and change in this area –

How
do you think it felt for me to get the same challenge from someone who barely
knew me?

A guest teacher came in for a few days and before he left he
gave each of us a challenge/encouragement.

What was mine?

That I need to learn better when to
speak and when to keep my mouth shut.

There were two
possible reactions
to this:

        1) My
initial reaction: Become discouraged
that I had grown so little over these past years. And to grow despondent over
whether this would ever change.

2) Or
what I believe to be the correct
reaction
: Remind myself that I have grown, changed and matured a lot in
this area. And that God was reminding to keep going forward and growing in this
area of my life.

We all
have these things in our life that we know need to change.

And it is
so easy to fall into shame, condemnation and wandering whether we will ever change.

At those times I believe it’s important to:

Give ourselves
a little grace.

Remind ourselves of how we have changed.

And put our eyes back on Jesus and inviting the Holy
Spirit into that area of our lives.

If we are a willing partner –

He will complete the work He started in us.

And in the meantime: He loves us the same.

What is it in
your life that’s similar? – I would encourage you to share it in the comments
section below or message me.

I would love
to pray for you. And it’s so good to get it out in the open.
