27 Years.
Two in the Morning TO Six in the Morning.
I like to refer to 3
to 5 A.M. as the
“Ungodliest Hours of
the Day”
Because if you stay up past 3 A.M. – You will probably be tired
the next day.
And if you have to get up between 3 and 5 A.M. – You will probably be tired the whole day.
I CRINGE at the
thought of either of those options.
Night One : Mpeketoni,
Kenya.
My tent set up
inside the church. Completely exhausted
from the night bus I took the day before.
I am sleeping soundly
on my Therm-A-Rest.
I hear a DEEP
voice resonating through the Church
Sanctuary.
“Is that someone
singing?” – I think to myself in a sleepy
daze.
“What time is it?”
– I turn over to look at my watch.
4 A.M. it says.
Half awake I step out of my tent to investigate the noise.
I walk to the front of the church and there is
praying and singing.

The next day I asked
him why he was up so early.
And the answer I
got shocked me.
For the last 27 years he has been
getting up from 2 A.M. to 6 A.M.
2 to 3 A.M. to Study.
3 to 6 A.M. to Pray.
He goes to bed around 10
or 11 every night .
Let me do the math
for you: That’s 3-4 hours of sleep every
night for 27 years.
I’m sure right now you’re at least a little bit shocked.
You might think he’s a little
crazy.
Or even be questioning
the effectiveness of living that kind of lifestyle.
He started it 27 years ago in Seminary at God’s Leading.
He has continued it
so:
He can continually DEEPEN
His Walk with God.
Keep his Heart and Spirit daily refreshed.
Have the Strength he
needs for that day.
The odd thing is that he rarely looks or acts tired.
And he seems to have an abundance
of energy.
I don’t give this example
so that you feel ashamed at your
perceived lack
of commitment to
your walk with God.
Or as a THE MODEL
of prayer that you should follow if you want to be a
GOOD CHRISTIAN.
I hope it is an encouragement:
That it is really possible to live off of God’s Strength Alone.
That COMMITMENT to seeking HIS PRESENCE is worth it and rewarding.
I know this – Many
years from now – I might not remember a lot about
Mpeketoni, Kenya.
But I will remember
the way a man of God – Bishop Maurice Busuru–
As a Leader and a
Pastor put his walk with God above EVERYTHING.
from 3 A.M. to 6 A.M. Every Morning.
