(I wish I could say this is the first time I have written this post, but its not. Some how I find a way to delete my post every time I start to write it.) I know its been anxiously awaited so here it is… My "About" page!

Nathaniel Frederick Herndon

I've spent my past 4 years here in Beautiful Boone, North Carolina. I just graduated from Appalachian State University, "A university ABOVE the rest." If you would have asked my 4 years ago what I would be doing after I graduated from college I would have said "getting a full time job and starting a family." This however is not the case. I actually turned down jobs in order to do this World Race. This is exciting but at the same time kind of really scary. I have been learning to trust in the Lords plan, as long as I align with him he will provide! It has been awesome to see how he has already shown up and provided for this race even in the beginning stages.

I was born in Ithaca, New York. Luckily, when I was 3 we moved to North Carolina. Unlike my sisters (one in Boston and the other in Washington D.C.) I could never see myself moving anywhere north of North Carolina. I love the friendly laid back people, slow pace, sweet tea, and beautiful beaches, mountains and everything in between. I have nothing against the northern states I really enjoy visiting family and going to Cape Cod in the summer but my heart is in the south.

For years I never considered overseas missions as something I would be interested in. I always felt like there was so much to be done here in our own neighborhoods and communities. How can we send people out to spread Christ's love if we haven't even shared his love with people that we are in contact with everyday? I feel like people can get so caught up in going to Africa that they forget about their own backyard. We are to be Christ's Ambassadors wherever the Lord has us, if you aren't called to overseas missions thats fine and great! Be used where you are! Make an impact! With all that said I do feel like the Lord has prepared me for a change. I want to be shaken up a little, I want an adventure! I want to see the Lord work in my and through me in ways that I have never experienced him.

For the passed three years I have been a volunteer YoungLife leader at Watauga High school, home of the pioneers. I have loved every moment of it. I have seen the Lord work through me and I have been able to see a visible change in my high school friends lives and my own life! I learned so much about myself and Christ's love. I have learned how to seek after Christ in my own life and how to lead my high school friends to Christ. I have learned the importance of relationships and I have been able to see the Lord work through those relationships to refine me.

Some things I love:

  • Being outside in God's creation
  • The sky (clouds, sunsets, sunrises, thunderstorms, stars, shooting stars) there is nothing more beautiful or mysterious to me than the sky.
  • Beach music and shag dancing
  • The mountains
  • Charleston
  • Getting dressed up
  • Golf
  • Watching/playing basketball
  • Being out on the lake

I'm sorry if this is only a brief look into who I am and what the Lord has been doing in my life. It kind of took it out of me having to start over so many times… I do look forward to keeping this blog and sharing what new things the Lord is reveling to me, how to be praying for me, and just what is going on in my life! I will tell you; this is not my first rodeo. I have been keeping a blog for the passed 6 months fairly consistently. If you would like to check that out while I'm transitioning to this one you are more than welcome to! The link is http://nathanielherndon336.blogspot.com/.
