Yeah, that’s right. Part 2. Hopefully we won’t be having an 11 part series.
Sunday, the 16th, I started feeling really achy. In my joints, head, muscles, the lot. I got back from using the Internet around 3:45, and on top of my achyness I felt extremely cold, despite 75 degree temps and sunshine. The next day, I over slept, and it took me five minutes to try to sit up and get out of my tent. I stayed home from ministry that day, which was clearing the path for a dirt road. I stayed home, hoping to avoid the 48 hour rule of going to the doctor.
The next morning, there was a group going to the doctor, which, because we are at a hospital, is right across the street. We wandered around the hospital a bit looking for a doctor. We finally found one by the ER. While we were talking to him, I told Daniel “Man, I feel dizzy” and I sat down. I vaguely remember taking off my jacket and hoodie, and the next thing I remember is looking up at the ceiling in the ER while the nurse put a thermometer under my arm. I got an IV, and was wheeled into a room with a couple other sick folks with various issues. This, mind you, was probably around 11:00 AM. I waited there with Tony and Aly literally ALL day. No sign of a doctor.
The night came around. Still no doctor. I called home with a squad leader phone. I could tell my mom was freaking out.
“Did they do an EKG?”
“Mom, this is Guatemala. No.”
Insert the worst nights sleep on the worst, most uncomfortable bed ever.
The next morning I finally saw a doctor. He thought because I was from Colorado, I had rocky mountain fever, which I have never heard of before. Then he thought, well, you’ve been gone from Colorado for a while so that’s probably not it. Nut you might have a brain parasite. So then we went and got a CT scan. We figured it would be in a shed somewhere and operated by kids on bicycles. But it actually wasn’t that bad, and results were thankfully negative. So then I figured ok, now they’re just guessing. I’m outta here.
Here’s my theory: I’m a side sleeper, and my pillow is too short. Therefore, I started getting achy. I passed out because I was wearing to many clothes and over heated. I could be a doctor. In retrospect, God was all “dude you need to slow down a bit and get in the Word” and I didn’t, so he made me. Gotta listen, y’all.
