11 things I learned while living in El Salvador

1. Cold showers aren’t as cold when the outside temperature rarely drops below 75°

2. Alone time is under rated.

3. When you can buy 30 tomatoes for $1, you can eat like a king just about every meal.

4. It’s the little acts of love that make the biggest differences. Don’t neglect the small things because they seem like nothing.

5. While re-roofing an asbestos roof, wear a mask and drink water.

6. Living in community is hard. There always needs to be some give and take on both sides, and personal quarrels need to be settled immediately, or there’s going to be a big mess to clean up later.

7. Great host’s make for great times. Especially when they have moments of teenager-hood every now and then.

8. Mike & Ike’s are sold at Walmart in El Salvador

9. While running security, it’s better to ask people if there is anything in their pockets before checking them.

10. Getting hit in the small of your back by a paintball hurts for several days.

11. Everyone disregards the homeless and poor, saying “Oh, it’s their own fault, because of the choices they have made.” In actuality, we should help them, no matter how they became homeless.
