“Aja tere karami cha” = Today is very hot.
“Thanni yabath” = Thank You.
“Namaste” or “Branam” = Hello!
It’s no surprise that this is the first phrase I learned in Nepalese. The weather is S
O warm (low 100’s with what feels like 100% humidity), but so are the hearts of our amazing contacts. Since the moment I stepped into the home of Daniel and Teresa, I felt like family. But I have to admit, the truck ride from Kathmandu to Nijgadh was not one of the funnest times of my life. After one spectacular evening in Kathmandu (coolest city I’ve ever been to), we loaded up heading for a town that we didn’t even know the name of. All we knew is that it was going to be a beautiful, scenic, 7 hour ride through the mountains to the foothills. Although a 7 hour ride through the Himalayas seems like a ton of fun, I have to admit, my eyes were closed more than half of the time. Okay…
so picture this: an SUV packed tight with me and my 5 teammates, all of our luggage, the driver and our contact Daniel. At first it was so exciting flying up the side of the mountain on the nice, 2 lane, paved road going through these beautiful little mountain villages… then all of the sudden the pavement was gone. For the next 3 hours we drove up and down the sides of mountains on a one way, extremely bumpy road. I’m pretty sure a couple of times my whole team was airborne in the back seat! It was so scary because we were feet away from the edge of the mountain with no guard rail praying that another car wouldn’t come and we would have to dodge it and go flying off of the side, plummeting thousands of
feet down. But the view was beautiful! There was one part where we could pull over and see Mt. Everest from the mountain we were on, but it was very hazy that day so we couldn’t see it. Oh well!
through a corn field (see picture) to get to church! Even though the heat is unbearable at times, I know the Lord is going to give my team and I strength to persevere through it. This month is going to be so amazing, we love our contacts already, we love teaching already, and we love living in this small village, disconnected with the world, just observing God’s glory and His beautiful creation! Speaking of creation.. Teresa, the woman we are staying with is about to have a baby ANY DAY now! We can’t wait! I think it’s a boy….
