“My God is absolutely ridiculous.” This is the description my squad leader Alexandra Squyres gave after worshipping the Lord with my squad in song for the first time in South Africa. It got me to thinking about just how much the Lord loves us. We know what John 3:16 says, but I don’t think we really grasp the depth of His great love for us. He loves us with an unending, unchanging, perfect love. I think so many times we neglect to thank God for His love for us. We take it for granted. We allow ourselves to believe that we are worth it, because we’re good people. But that’s a lie!! Without the Lord, we are nothing. We are ONLY righteous because Christ gave us His perfect righteousness. So it is nothing in us that makes us good, or worthy. Christ has made us worthy. What an awesome truth!! The reason Christ died for our sins and atoned for us was simply because He loved us!!!
And what do we do with this love? Share it!! We do this by serving others, sharing the Gospel, preferring others above ourselves, or simply encouraging someone. If the love of God is in you, it will come out. While in Chicago a few days ago, I took a train with my parents just a few hours before making my flight to JFK. A lady from the Philippines came in and sat next to me. She was talking on the phone at first, and then asked me a question about her iPhone. Just a simple question turned into a life conversation. We learned a lot about each other and I shared with her my missions trip. I was so blessed to have sat by her!! We talked and laughed together for 30 minutes before she got off. She definitely had the love of God, and was showing me that love. It would have been very easy for her to turn around and talk to her sister who she was travelling with, but she didn’t. She made a conscious effort to share Christ’s love simply by engaging in conversation. She was such an encouragement to me and I pray I was the same to her.
So remember God’s love for us, and show it to those around you. Make someone smile today. Thank Him for loving you, and be purposeful in the way you love.
