I have to admit; when I was a teenager, I went through a time of saying that even though I didn’t know what I wanted to be when I grew up, I knew I didn’t want to follow my parents in terms of employment. I thought to myself “I want to do my own thing.” My dad was the general manager of a local radio station and my mom was a branch manager in the local library district. So what did I proceed to do? I majored in broadcast and written journalism in college and then worked for the local library district for 10 years. Clearly, my teenage mindset didn’t affect my decisions after all. 🙂 I actually still find the irony of this amusing.
I can also say now with a heart full of joy that I absolutely want to follow in the footsteps of the family business. Wait a sec’. I meant the Family Business. Because I am a part of the Family of the Beloved; you’re in that family too. And our Papa has declared our purpose that of a purpose of love. We have been born to be loved and to love. We are not just children of the Most High; we’re His sons and daughters who are on this planet because there is something only (insert your name here) can do and it is through His love we are changed; it’s through His love this world is changed.
A concept I’ve only recently begun to grasp is that not only do we place our absolute trust in the Lord, but the Lord trusts us to be a part of His business of love. So astounding and remarkable that The King, Who could do absolutely anything He wants at any time, stirs in our hearts passions and desires that He then wants us to take to the world for His glory, in order that all may know just how much He loves us. He doesn’t just snap His fingers and instantaneously alter every situation; He allows us the mind-blowing honor to be a part of having what He wants accomplished throughout earth to happen through His Spirit working and moving in His children. This Business is serious. This Business requires all we are, have and can do. And it is a privilege to follow Papa. 🙂
