There is no such thing as a “normal” day on the World Race. This became clear from the very beginning. But a few days ago, the Lord allowed us to witness His power in a way I had never before experienced. I’m still in awe.
We had completed a Vacation Bible School for children who live in the slums and then began visiting homes and praying for the families (we did this every time we went to the slums). We visited two homes and were about to head to the bus when a man asked the pastor with us to bring us to his home and pray. As soon as we walked in I noticed there was a Hindu idol on the wall. We started praying and not more than 30 seconds later a man fell, and I mean fell, face-flat on the floor. I didn’t see it because my eyes were shut but I heard it. At first I thought it was medical-related (he wasn’t moving and I actually thought he was dead) so we started praying for healing. In the background I heard a woman clapping but then she started laughing. However, this wasn’t “laughing-in-a-good-way” laughing. As soon as I heard it, the Lord told me this woman was demon-possessed. Within a minute two people literally drug this woman by her arms out to the room we were in. She was thrashing around and convulsing. The pastor was praying out the demons and I know my teammates and I were all startled by the amount of chaos going on around us. We prayed and cried out to the Lord for at least 15 minutes. And because of His power, the demons fled. Because Jesus is Lord, evil had to leave. Both the man and woman were broken free of the chains that bound them.
I’ve known for years that spiritual warfare is real, but this was the first time I had seen it in a physical sense to this degree. “Ironically” we arrived later than usual to the slums that night, but after this we all knew why. The Lord wanted us in that house, at the time. And as believers who have the Holy Spirit, He has given us a command: “Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.” Matthew 10:8. It is a night I’ll never forget.
