There is a common misconception that Christians are always happy, nothing ever goes wrong and every day is like floating on a cloud while eating bon-bons and watching Saved By the Bell.  Though that would be fun (Team Zach Morris! 🙂 ), it’s basically a ball o’ hogwash.  Life. Is. Hard.  We absolutely have moments of great happiness, but they are just that: moments.  They come and then go.  They are captured in our memories but even those fade away.
Joy, on the other hand, stems from the promise that our hope, truth, life and breath belong to the King Eternal and He has us embraced in His loving, comforting arms.  His arms carry us when we don’t have strength to walk, they pick us up when we’ve fallen and they hold the umbrella when the worst of storms come.  Like in a storm, some of the wind and rain may hit but we are ultimately protected in the knowledge that Christ is Lord, nothing is bigger or greater and He is the immovable, unshakeable Rock.  Happiness is temporary; joy is eternal. 🙂
“The precepts of the LORD are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes.” Psalm 19:8
