"It's so hot that we came up with words to describe the different sweat on our body."

That was part of a welcome note we received from the last World Race team when we got to our ministry site in Cambodia.

And it was pretty accurate.
It's a million degrees hot here; until it rains.

The rain that falls from the sky is slightly chilled, a breeze covers the land, and the rest of the day is a pleasant surprise full of a windchill and cool weather.

Then the cycle repeats itself the next day.

We wake up and eat breakfast in the heat.
Do ministry in the heat.
Walk to the village in the heat.
Eat lunch in the heat.

It's just always insanely hot.
Until it isn't; after the rain falls.

Then it's beautiful.

We emerge from our cocoons of heat exhaustion and take on a soccer game with the kids.
Or sing a few songs together.

It's kind of like our walk with God.

It's hard.
Really hard.

We wake up and deal with the difficult as soon as our feet hit the ground.
We work with the difficult.
We're constantly surrounded by all of these struggles.

Why?

Because we take it on ourselves.
We have to be
the ones to fix it, to make it better, to solve the problem.

We are emotionally exhausted.
Physically exhausted.

Then .. we realize what we're doing.

We're taking on burdens we don't have to.
We're being anxious about things we shouldn't be.
We're stressing over a life that isn't ours.

We're kicking dirt on the cross
that we're called to pick up.

So..

We pick it up.
We lay our burdens at His feet.
And we pick up the cross.

We realize how light and easy His burden truly is.

Why?

Because He takes care of all the stresses.
He deals with the difficult.
He provides the peace.
He covers the understanding.

He's like an afternoon rain that cools off the land.
He's the breath of fresh air.

Funny thing is that we don't have to wait for Him to pick up our burdens whenever He feels like it.

We can just lay it down at His feet; when we're ready.

He's waiting for us.

Lucky for us.
Now .. if only we could command the rain on queue. 😉
