I'm living in the jungle book.

When I step outside, I'm face-to-face with the sort of nature I've only seen in Jurassic Park.
The palm trees tower over me like T-Rex about to attack his prey.
Ants are at least half an inch long, and the mosquitos are as fat as flies.

There's a monkey that lives in the tree outside my team's common area.
Birds randomly fly by and leave us with splashes of bright reds,
yellows, oranges, and the occasional blues.

At night, the air cools off, the jungle falls silent, and a trickle of rain
becomes a soft downpour onto the tin roof, rocking us all into a deep sleep.

We are living life on an oil palm plantation this month.

At first, I was intimidated.
A month, in the jungle, with wild animals?!

The bus ride into town drove my team through miles and miles of pure, untouched, rainforest.
Our ride up into the plantation was through twists and turns on a bumpy, dirt road.

And our home for the month is situated in the middle of the jungle.
A beautiful jungle …
but a jungle, nonetheless.

Let's just confirm that I'm completely out of my element.

And I love it.

Nothing I have seen on the race compares with the beauty that God has formed into the rainforest of Malaysia. The foliage is overwhelmingly stunning, and it's such a delight to watch a family of monkeys swing from tree to tree.

Every month, God has taught me something different.

This month, I'm on the edge of my seat, thrilled to be given the opportunity to serve in such a place.

Sure, I'm terrified of spiders
and woke up to a brand new spider web covering the kitchen sink this morning,
and our shower ceiling is one solid spider web,
(plus the boys keep talking about hunting tigers)
but it's an honor to be immersed in the beauty of nature.

If I had to take bets, I'd say that the Garden of Eden
most resembled the place that I GET to live in this month.

The best part?

We're going deeper into the jungle,
to villages that are unreached.

Remember when I said
that if you're going to serve others for God's glory
than at the end of the day it cannot be about you?

Yep, welcome to my life.

JUNGLE HERE I COME..
WOOHOO, haha.
