Can I have an honest moment with you?
I want to talk about love.
I want to talk about relationship.
You know, that kind of love and romance that, as women, we start dreaming about right after we see our first Disney Princess movie.
Suddenly, we all want to grow up and be a princess, complete with ball gown and crown.
We make up all of these imaginary scenes in our head.
That some boy will see us riding our bicycles down the road and flag us down to buy us an ice cream and talk about our dreams.
Or, when we get older, we have these fairytales in our head that the cute barista really did have a hidden meaning behind his 'hello' and it will only be a matter of time before he asks for our number.
Maybe it's that the tow truck guy is really going to be our prince in shining armor and we eagerly await his arrival, only to be disappointed when a 40 year old man with a potbelly comes climbing out of the truck.
We fill our minds with romantic movies, where the man is nearly perfect.
You know, he goes to church and is successful in his career and is charming.
He has a dazzling smile, and voluptuous hair, and he's a true gentleman.
Then, this seemingly perfect man, falls in love with a flawed, but beautiful, woman and we walk away with a yearning in our hearts, thinking , "What about me?!"
Why?
Why do we swoon when we see other's in love?
Why do we find ourselves yearning for the same love we see our best friend having?
Why do we sit at weddings and wish that it was us?
Why do we spend hours on pinterest looking up love quotes, wedding ideas, and engagement photos when we're nowhere near that season of our lives?
Why do we talk for days with our girlfriends about love?
Because we were born for it.
God created us for love.
In fact, He created us because He already loved us.
"We love Him because HE first loved us." -1 John 4:19
Naturally speaking, God created women with a yearning for love and relationship.
From the time we are little girls until the present time, this image of the type of love we should have is placed before our eyes and then we see it ooze out periodically through our days.
Luke 6 talks about how our mouth speaks from what our heart is full of.
And as women, our heart is bursting at the seams with LOVE.
Unfortunately, it's misplaced love.
God created us to love HIM.
If we don't know, walk with, or LOVE, the creator of LOVE, how will we ever UNDERSTAND love?
How will we ever HAVE the LOVE that will satisfy the yearning of our hearts?
We walk through life and subconsciously (and on knowingly) seek the attention of the men around us.
We want to feel loved, we want to feel wanted, needed, desired.
We want to be pursued, dang it.
And we want it now.
But .. we're not ready for it because we don't know what love is.
We just know that we want it.
1 Corinthians gives a definition of love.
"Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.Love never fails…"
– 1 Corinthians 13:4-8
The definition of perfect love.
A love that we will never perfect due to our sinful nature.
But a love that our heart desires.
That our soul yearns for.
And a love that we try to find in an imperfect world, all the while imagining a perfect man in our daydreams.
a perfect man is already madly in love with us.
God is Jesus.
Jesus came to earth and was the ONLY perfect man.
He lived a perfect, sinless life.
We all have our image of what we want our husband to look like but all of our daydreams
have one thing in common;
The man is perfect and head over heels in love with us.
The man in our daydreams loves us so much that he would lay down his life,
however tragic to our hearts, to keep us safe.
He is a man of dignity, of character.
He is a man of charm and love.
He is compassionate, and thoughtful.
He's slow to speak and quick to listen.
He's patient and understanding.
He's wise and he's strong.
He's a protector but it also gentle.
He's a hero.
All of these things encompass Jesus, they encompass God.
They ARE our Creator.
The One who knew that we would desire LOVE.
The One who created us, knowing that our souls would long for RELATIONSHIP.
He created us for relationship with Him.
He created us to fall in love with HIM.
So often, we allow our focus to be skewed.
We focus so much on wanting love that we fail to realize the love we truly need to satisfy.
We're searching an imperfect world, for a perfect love.
Our longing will never be satisfied, until we fall in love with our Creator.
Until we allow Him to capture our hearts, our souls, our everything.
Only then, will our thirst for love be quenched.
Only then will we understand love.
Only then will we know why God created us to love.
And only then, will we receive our fairytales.
A perfect love story (cheesiness included),
with a perfect God who already
laid down His life,
on the cross,
for YOUR life.
Love isn't love without the Creator.
And all other searches for it is vanity.
My prayer is that we fall in love with the CREATOR of men and understand love, before we allow ourselves to fall in with the created man.
<3tasha.
