Do you ever feel that way?
Sheer frustration? Anxiety? Annoyance?
That one moment where you're like,
"ok, no this is not going to work for me."
Yea, me too.
Is it ok? Um.. well, yea – I guess?
Or no? Or maybe I just don't know? But I do know that in the end, we are merely human and sometimes our actions reflect that more than other things.
And perhaps what really matters is how you react to that moment?
Do you scream, yell, or (like me) cry tears of frustration?
Take yesterday for instance …,
driving home from work.
I wanted to take the route that bypassed the tolls.
I was trying to save a mere $2 bucks.
Instead, I ended up taking the bridge that took me 25 minutes out of my way.
Why?
Well, because I got lost.
I had no idea where I was going but I was so stubborn at that point when I realized I was lost that I was determined I 'really did' know where I was going (like a guy would).
I kept taking lefts and rights.
And ended up even cutting off a cop.
(Who, btw, didn't pull me over – THANK GOODNESS)
And then … I just cried.
Part of it I'll blame on the overly stressful morning I had personally, the other part I'll blame to my frustration at being lost but mostly all the blame goes onto the fact that I'm a girl and girls cry, period.
I felt so silly in that moment.
Why am I going to cry tears full of void emotion?
Besides the whole being a girl thing,
there's the whole being a human thing.
(I came across a blog this morning that brought forth the idea below … I thought I would expand upon it and share it with you.)
Remember when Jesus was walking along one morning and was 'hungry'?
(I'd venture to say more like starving)
And he found a fig tree but figs weren't in season? So he cursed the tree, and the tree died.
I'm sure that there are millions on intrepretations to it but what if we looked at it just simply for a moment?
Jesus was merely a human at one point.
Scripture says that He struggled with the same struggles we struggle with.
He dealt with the same demons.
And dang it, HE WAS HUNGRY.
And poof, A FIG TREE.
Overjoyed He probably cantered on over to it.
And then, nothing.
Why? Because the tree wasn't in season.
Out of sheer frustration and exasperation, perhaps even some disappointment…
He curses the tree.
The tree withers.
Is it the tree's fault that there's not any fruit on it?
That it's not the right season?
Nope.
The tree was a just an innocent bystander who happened to be in the wrong place (and wrong season) at the wrong time.
But then,
He took a moment to gather himself, while the disciples probably took a step back to let him breath, and He refocused His attentions and His purpose and He turned it into a lesson on Faith for His followers.
If only we could be that graceful.
Jesus did succumb to frustration (don't forget the turning of the tables in the Church!) because He was human at a point. He's been tempted.
But He corrected it and continued on in what His calling was.
What if we did that?
In a moment where we slip?
Where we accidentally get a bit too angry?
Or we snap at a loved one?
Or we flick off the snowbird who cut us off and is now driving 10mph under the speed limit?
Whatever it is.
What if we took a moment, recollected ourselves, and pulled the lesson from it?
What if we truly learned from our 'human' moments?
I don't know, just a thought.
Oh, and I won't be taking that route home ever again. . . unless I google map that sucka!
