This past weekend I hiked a volcano with a group of people from my squad. We got up at 5:30 and met up for breakfast at 6. Once we had breakfast we waited for our boat for about 20min. Finally, our boat showed up so that we could take it across the lake to San Pedro. When we got to San Pedro we found a guide who could take us to the base of the volcano.
Going up the mountain we were told that it was going to be about 3 or 4 hours to the top. When I heard that I almost backed out because I just didn’t know how I was going to make it up the volcano. The longest hike I had done was like an hour. But before the weekend I had determined that I would be hiking a volcano. With determination then I decided I would be hiking that sucker and conquering it.
About halfway up I became extremely winded and exhausted. I wondered how I was going to make it all the way. As I began to doubt myself the team around me were just speaking encouragement all the way and shouting out cheers. I soon realized that I was not hiking up that volcano on my own strength. I became quiet as I listened to the words God was speaking to me.
“You aren’t doing this on your own, there is no way you can do anything in your own strength. Lean on me. Rest in me. Let me carry you.”
I became awe struck by the gentleness of His voice and yet by how clear it was to me. Almost three quarters of the way up we stopped for a rest and our guides were rushing us to hurry so we could see the view from the top before the clouds rolled in. I could see the clouds coming; I began to worry thinking that I would be majorly bummed if I walked all the way up this volcano just to miss the view. As I began to worry I heard the Lord’s voice again, “I will create the view for you. Stop worrying, enjoy this time and when you get to the top I will part the clouds.” Close after those words were spoken to me one of the guys, Bryan, spoke the exact same words and several other people affirmed it. I was again blessed by the words of my Savior.
The minute we made it to the top we looked out and the clouds were literally parting like the Red Sea. My soul was exuberant I soaked in the view with the rest of the group. We were all in awe of our God. On the way back down we were able to chat with each other about life and our past. It was just such a wonderful time of fellowship.
I am continuing to listen to God and what he is saying to me. Praise him for us making it to the top and for the amazing view we received. Our God is great!!!
I'm sorry there are no pictures, for some reason the site is not allowing me to post them. There are pictures on my facebook for those who have facebook. I will be posting some soon, hopefully.
