It has only been six months since a typhoon hit Manila, Philippines and displaced thousands that lived in its city streets. Amongst the flood waters and trash, a young boy named David was found wandering the streets. He is only four years of age at the most. He has eyes that reveal his soul to be pure and full of joy. His story is like thousands that live in the shadows of this populated metropolis- abandoned, lost, forgotten, abused, misplaced, but no one is for sure.
His face is familiar amongst tryke drivers that knew him because his mother would drop him off for the day and return after work late at night. He recalls his mother’s name but no indication of sadness follows him. Can he see her face? Does he think his stay here at the orphanage is for just a short period of time? These are things they may never know about David. More than likely, questions will always surround the beginnings of his life.
However, God has truly filled this child with pure joy. His laughter is contagious and his smile is refreshing. I hold him in my lap and laughter tumbles out from the small belly revealing who he truly is. I never knew of a child who had so little that was left so alone could be overflowing with so much joy. I love, little, David and can’t wait to see what God has in store for him.
