So the race is halfway over and it is crazy to think that I have celebrated some big things on the race, like Christmas, my niece’s first birthday (hey that’s important) and other birthdays and holidays as well. But I think the crazy thing is that it was over a year ago I was telling people about my adventure, this was also when I had a few people tell me this one phrase, that is “ wow you’re going to change.” What I said to that is bring it on. I came on the race to serve the Lord and love on people, but deep down I wanted to change. Change into what I didn’t know, but I wanted proof that I could overcome being in uncomfortable situations and that I could grow a bit closer to the Lord. Then I figured it out. I figured out that God sent me on this mission trip to change into the daughter that I was meant to be. That this race is going to shape me into being who God wants and needs me to be.
St. Catherine of Siena once said “Be who God meant for you to be and will set the world on fire.” How am I to set the world on fire if I’m am not who I am meant to be? I came on this mission trip to help people, to serve them and give them lift, which to me is the equivalent of setting the world on fire. Because setting the world on fire,, is going to change the world, and that may look like smiling at an older Asian lady. It may look like playing with Indian orphans, and singing songs with brothers and sisters in Christ. Changing the world starts with showing God’s love to every person you meet, because you can easily change their world. Basically you can start this crazy beautiful domino effect where all over the world songs of praises will erupt, and people will see that changing yourself for the Lord is an amazing event that takes place in one’s life.
So go out, find who you were born to be and start a fire, plant a seed in someone’s heart. Go set this world on fire for God’s love and mercy. I want to see this world change, because Lord knows we need some love in this world.
