The last week that my team spent in Nicaragua, we had the honor and greatest privilege to travel to the city of Ocotal where Alejandro, an amazing man of God who we served alongside of in Honduras. He is a face that you can never forget and a joy that will always brighten your day. He lives in Nicaragua, but helps out at Zion’s Gate, our ministry contact in month 2.
While we were in Honduras, Alejandro chaperoned our team on several trips to the hospital, where we saw the Lord show up in mighty ways. At the end of the month, he asked numerous times if we could come to his city and help with his ministry. Given the crazy and very eventful month that we had, we were so stoked to get to be reunited with Alejandro and pour into his family, community, and church.
We arrived and were greeted with his big smile and cheerful presence. He took us to his humble home, where we slept 8 in one room. We were able to meet his precious family that would’ve given us the clothes off their back and go hungry for us to eat. We first went to a church service they had and were able to meet his church fellowship and pastor.
We also served in the school that his daughter went to and had the honor of pouring out into so many kids for a couple of days. Although, I was sick, I was able to function and do some ministry. After ministry at the school, we did house visits. These weren’t strangers, but these were people that Alejandro previously knew. We entered the first house and Alejandro would start the typical routine of introducing us, telling the people what we were about, who we were, and what we do – But this time I was introduced in a way that I’ve never been introduced before. This time it was in Spanish, but it translated into something like this,
“These girls I worked with in Honduras. They are missionaries from the World Race. While we were in Honduras we went to pray for several people in the hospital. These girls layed hands on kids who eventually came out of comas. They believe in the power of God. These girls believe that you receive what you ask for. These girls come with miracles.”
In this moment, tears rolled down my face. What a confidence he had in us, not in us, but the power of God working through us. I was instantly convicted. This man, who has known us for a month has more confidence in the power of God in me than I have in the power of God within myself.
I was challenged to have the same confidence that he possessed about the spirit of God working through me. It’s always crazy to hear how others view of you can be so contradicting to your own belief about yourself. Sometimes we are victim to being our worst critics and in that, we are criticizing the Spirit of God who dwells within us. I desire to be a woman, fully convinced. Not of myself, but the Spirit that lives inside of me.
