It gets cold at night.
I've never slept outside before, and I was expecting Georgia to be peachy keen. Aka warm.
It's hit freezing almost every night.
Future world racers: bring long under armor.
Knowing how to cook is essential.
They told us to bring our mess kits. I though it was to look sweet with pots and pans and whatever else goes in a mess kit hanging from our packs.
Mess kits are for cooking.
Future world racers: brush up on your culinary abilities.
Breakfast doesn't mean cereal.
They're doing a good job of messing with our stomachs, serving us foods that we'll probably be eating on the race.
Sometimes that means sardines in your porridge at breakfast or banana in your grilled cheese.
Future world racers: don't ever ask what's in your food.
People aren't what you expect.
I came here thinking I had all my best friends picked out and am finding myself loving people I didn't know existed.
Future world racers: get to know your team before you come (seriously, text, facebook, call, blog– it makes camp so much easier), but don't hold those relationships too tightly.
God doesn't always work in a box.

Future world racers: expect to see God work.
Last and most importantly:
You're surrounded by nature.
This means bugs and spiders and snakes and dirt and coyotes and bears and rain and everything else. A spider literally crawled over my head and onto my face while I was brushing my teeth. True story.
Future world racers: don't forget your bug spray (but if you do, ask one of your new- or old- friends, and then watch God work miracles when your tent is the only one not infested with ants and cockroaches).

^ Me blissful(ly ignorant) in my front yard before leaving for training camp! 🙂
