Ministry in Lesotho

First I want to say I’m so excited to be here in Lesotho! I’ve always had a heart for Africa. But I had never heard of Lesotho before the World Race. When I was looking for a route I definitely knew I wanted to go to South Africa and that is all I knew. Then I looked into Lesotho because I saw it on a route and I felt my heart tugged to go there too. Praise the Lord He had a route with both! In the information I saw it looked much more rural than what we are experiencing. My team got placed in Maseru, the capitol city of Lesotho, so it has a mall and everything. Not indigenous like I expected.

As we were driving from Joberg to Lesotho my teammates from Texas and Arizona said it looks like home! So where we are in Lesotho, looks much like TX and AZ apparently.

We are living on the grounds of Tholoana ea Lerato (Seed of Love), an orphanage right outside the city.

Their vision is to be the first choice in advocacy and protection of the rights of orphaned and vulnerable children. They take in anywhere from 2 to 16 year old’s. When they get an age where it is no longer appropriate to have them with the opposite genders they place them in homes that they have set up for them or try to revaluate family members to see if conditions are safe for them to return to a family member.

The kids here love it when ministry teams come in because they feel so special and loved. So it’s important for us to spend as much time as we can with them.  So our time here will be with the children as often as we can. Playing outside with them, coloring, teaching games, songs, and Bible studies. Whatever fun things we can think of. We also have set schedules in the morning, afternoon, and evening. In the morning we help with preparing breakfast and bathing the little ones, in the afternoon we do dishes, and in the evening we help prepare dinner and bathe the littles again. In between those shifts we play with the kids when they are through with their chores. Our focus this month is to show these kids love that they haven’t received in their homes and show them that they are important. We want to show them love only the Heavenly Father can give us. Our Beauty for Ashes coordinator Melissa and the rest of us are going to put together a day for the older girls in the orphanage. We want to make them feel special and allow them a safe place to talk. We also want to have a day for the house Moms and workers in the office as well. Still working on the plans.

Prayer requests for Seeds of Love

They are in need of funding

Also they desire to have a counselor for the children here because a lot of the them have had very rough pasts

Against spiritual warfare on their grounds

That the workers here would feel lift from our team this month and teams to come

Until next time

               God Bless =)
