My first day of ministry was incredible. This was Monday August 9th. Me and 3 of my squad mates drove with one of the local pastors 35 kilometers to a near by town to work in a soup kitchen. When we got there the soup kitchen was part of a clinic so there were a lot of people waiting to be seen in the clinic. The pastor we were with asked which of us was going to give a word, or message. One of my squad mates said he would give part of his testimony and a message. We he spoke you could see God working in the hearts of the locals. Many people gave their life to Christ that day! The message he gave was only 15-20 min long, but it was just what these people needed to here. They were not ready for us to serve food so after the message we went outside to offer prayer to anyone that wanted it. I got to pray for three people. The first was for a man that was physically sick. We asked God to heal his body. The second was a woman who’s children had grown up, married, and moved away and she didn’t know if she would see them again. We prayed for peace and confront for her. That she would not fear for her family, but one day she would be able to see them again. The last lady we prayed for really stretched my faith. We thought we were done for the day so we all walked over to the car getting ready to leave and this woman comes up to us. She didn’t speak much English so our pastor translated for us that she was nearly blind. Her eyesight had been bad for years and she wanted to see again. She also had diabetes. So the 4 of us gathered around her, laid hands on her, then began to pray. We prayed for God to heal her eyes so she could see. After we prayed we looked at her and asked if she could see. She said it was a little better. We didn’t stop there. God is so good we wanted full healing. We started to pray again and declare her vision restored. Once we finished praying we asked her how her sight was. She said much better but not full. We looked at each other and said alright we will pray one more time. After the 3rd time we prayed she opened her eyes and said she could see us clearly! One of my squad mates took her pictured after we prayed and showed it to her. When she looked at the camera and saw her face an overwhelming joy took over her. She began to smile and laugh! For the first time in years she saw a clear reflection for herself! Isaiah 35:12 says “then the eyes of the blind shall be opened. And the ears of the deaf unstopped.”
This experience is something I have only heard of. I know God is with us and heals, but to see it and be apart of it is so unreal. You read stories in the bible about vision being restored, but I never thought I would get to witness it, yet alone be apart of a team to pray for it! Before going on the race I prayed to see physical healing. I wanted to see God move in his people. On my first day of ministry my prayer was answered. I was used by God to minister to his people. Doing ministry in Africa has truly blessed my heart. I have longed to come to Africa for a while. The locals are so welcoming. Our host home has done so much for us already! We have warm beds, hot showers, and three meals every day. It’s amazing to see God move in the people. Monday my heart was so spiritually full. (:
I have more stories to tell, but they will be for another blog. I want to say thank you to everyone that is supporting me or has donated! Many people I don’t know have financially supported this mission trip and I’m so grateful! Thank you everyone that has been keeping me in your prayers! Love you all! (:
