This week we will be our last week in Africa. It’s definitely bitter sweet to leave, but I look forward to what Asia has in store for me. Its weird to think that I will be leaving Africa. I wanted to do a recap of the last three months to share how my experience has been.

Spiritually:
Starting the race I came on this journey ready to discover how God made me. My heart was wrecked learning who I was made to be, and learning to love that. You can’t love others if you don’t love who you are in Christ. Learning to love who I am will be a long journey, but I know how to step out in boldness now. I preached, sang, and prayed in front of people with no fear. I found a new confidence in myself. Also my relationship with my parents is improving. I was to stubborn and prideful to apologize for things in the past. Last month I was able to call them and say I was sorry for past behaviors. Slowly my heart is changing in ways for the better and it’s exciting!

Ministry:
In Africa we have done a little bit of everything it feels like. We worked in a soup kitchen, did prison ministry, helped with construction on a playground & orphanage, did prayer walks, ministered in a hospital, worked at care points, did admin work, door to door evangelism, teaches in schools, and lived in a youth house. Honestly I didn’t enjoy everything, but I didn’t come on this trip to be comfortable. I came for growth, which is what I’m getting. I’m being stretched in ways I haven’t been before. Some days are harder then others. That’s ok though, it’s worth it in the end to be in the uncomfortable.

Challenges:
Community- I have grown in this so much, but living with so many people 24/7 is something I’m still learning to enjoy.
Doing ministry that wouldn’t be my first choice. Everyone has ministry that is their jam, it’s what they enjoy the most and are gifted in. When I’m pushed out of my comfort zone it can be hard, but in learning to embrace it.

Adventure:
I got my first tattoo right after month one in Durban, South Africa.( also passed out for the first time getting it done, not my proudest moment lol)
I got my eyebrow pierced as well in Durban.
Climbed a mountain in Lesotho
Climbed in a canyon
Swam with sharks (not in a cage)
Ate cow liver… Not by choice lol

Over all Africa as left a mark on my heart I will never forget. I have met so many wonderful people, seen so many beautiful places, and had lots of growth. I lived in the mountain, the desert, and the jungle next to a beach. Next week we leave Africa and head to Asia for three months. Our first stop is Vietnam. Then Cambodia and Thailand. I’m stepping into month 4 with an open heart ready to receive what God has for me. Thank you everyone who has kept me in their thoughts and prayers! I’m so greateful to be fully funded and able to be on this journey. Love you all! (: Naomi
