I want to tell you a bit about the ministry that we are involved in this month. We are living on the farm with our contacts Tony and Nidia this month. Tony has been working with youth in poverty in a village called Los Pinos for the past five years. He has a heart for the lost and fatherless. Nidia works in town to support the ministry. This wonderful couple has opened the doors of their home to these boys. They have an eighteen year old named Henry who has been living with them for the past three months and previously he was homeless.
This month they have taken in Christopher as well. He is 16 and has been addicted to paint thinner for a number of years. Tony has been showing him God’s love for the past 2 years and continued to seek him out and provide for him even when Christopher has not shown gratitude back. He has been abusive of Tony in the past and very rude to him. The day before we arrived Tony found Christopher unconscious under a pile of garbage in the back yard. He was high on paint thinner and had blood on his face. Tony picked him up, cleaned him up and gave him food and Pepsi to drink. After he was sobered up Christopher told him that he wanted help so Tony brought him to the farm. He has committed to staying here for one month.
In the short time that Christopher has been here with us Tony tells us what an improvement he has seen. Christopher is polite and willing to help. He has recommitted his life to Jesus and this past Sunday he was baptized along with Henry and three other young men Tony has been working with. Also baptized were five of my squad mates. It was a very exciting day to see the fruits of Tony’s labour and see the difference God has made in these youth.
Tony says that our ministry this month is all about joining in their life. We are participating in the activities, showering love on the youth and joining in the work that needs to be done on the farm. They have only lived here for eight months and much work has already been done but there are many projects left to do.
