Today is a great day for the beach.   It is our day off and we are in a beach town enjoying the beauty of God’s creation.  I am sitting on the front deck of a nice little cafe overlooking the beach.  I can smell the salt water and hear the ocean waves as they crash on the beach. I feel the heat of the sun on my shoulder.  I see people milling around as they buy icecream or walk with their loved ones.  If I did not know where I was I might mistake this for any other beach town.  But no I am in Peru.  Peru has not been anything like I was expecting.  I was not prepared for the desert between small towns or the mountains and hills with no green grass growing.  I was not prepared for what God would do in my heart here in Peru.
I have wanted to visit Peru for about 4 years now ever since I started supporting a world vision child from Peru.  I see his face in the sweet children I have met.  I have found that no matter where I go I can see God’s hand in the uniqueness of the landscape and the light shining in the faces of those who love him.
God has been showing me that we need to take care of each other.  Sometimes in our busy lives we live independent of others.  We live on busy streets with neighbors we have never met.  We work each day with people that we barely know.  We need to step out of our comfort zone and get to know those around us.  Why is this so hard?  What are we afraid of?  I know I spent the last few years isolating myself from those around me.  I was so stressed out that I could not be bothered to let people in my life.
God did not make us to live alone but to live in community with others.  There are so many lost and hurting people in our own backyards all it takes is someone to walk across the sidewalk and reach out.  Who knows but you could be the one to touch someones life today.  You do not have to come to Peru to do that.
