I originally wrote this as an email before I realized that I don’t use email very often, so I don’t have many people’s email addresses. By posting it as a blog, I am able to reach more people through social media. My apologies to anyone who has already received this letter in their email. Also, for more informatigon on what my life will be looking like over the next year, read the blog I wrote before this one entitled: Launching Into Future Ministry. Thank you.
Dear Family and Friends,
I’m excited to announce that I will be going with River City Church to Costa Rica on a mission trip from May 21-June 1. As most of you know, River City Church is my home church in Jacksonville, FL, and is where I started following Jesus almost three years ago. RCC, in my first year of being a Christian, was where my passions for serving others, social justice, discipleship, community, and prayer ministry all began. While I have been away on both World Races, my church family has always been on my heart and has supported me and ministered to me when I have been back in Jacksonville.
RCC has recently started a campaign to increase interest in and support for foreign missions among the church. A vital part of that campaign is increasing the number of short term trips we send out a year. As Christians we are all called to missions. We are all called to share the love of Christ with our neighbors in our city, with others in our region, and with people around the world. It is our hope that by sending people on these short term trips God will ignite a fire in the participant’s hearts that will spill over into their daily lives and the lives of those around them. That is how the kingdom is advanced.
In order for us to send out more short term trips, we will need to partner with churches and ministries in other countries. These are the people who are on the ground in these countries affecting their communities with the love of Christ. On this trip we will be working with a pastor named Miguel who runs feeding programs in the slums around San Jose, serving: the homeless, prostitutes, addicts, homosexuals, transgender, and others who have been displaced by society. He has a passion for showing love to the unloved. It is our hope on this trip to set up a lasting partnership between River City Church and Pastor Miguel.
While I was still away on this last World Race trip, I felt like God was telling me that during this season between the Race and my time at the G42 Leadership Academy in October, He wanted me to help build interest in missions at RCC and He wanted me to go back to Central America. This opportunity fills both of those callings. There are five of us who are going on this initial Costa Rica trip and we are being asked to each raise $2,000 for our travel, lodging, and food. I would love to invite you to pray about partnering with me on this mission in prayer and financially.
There are two ways you can give financially. The first way is Checks can be sent to RIVER CITY CHURCH, 7950 BELFORT PKWY, JACKSONVILLE, FL, 32256. If you send a check please put Costa Rica Mission Trip for Myles Willman on the memo line of the check. If you would like to donate online with a credit card or debit card, you can go to RCCJAX.com and donate through the Online Giving tab on the website. Note: If you give online, please send me an email ([email protected]) to let me know how much you donated. The website doesn’t have a place to designate where donations go, so I will have to keep track of what money is for my trip.
I appreciate all of the prayer and support from all of you on my past trips, with the support I am raising to go to G42 in the fall, and with the support for this Costa Rica trip. God has called me to a life that I couldn’t possibly live without raising support from others in the body of Christ. The obedience you have all shown has made all of this possible and doesn’t go unnoticed by me or by Him. I love you all dearly and you are always in my prayers.
May the Lord bless you,
Myles Willman
Matthew 28:18-20
And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
