Truett McConnell Assignment
Megersa Heyessa is the children’s village branch manager of HopEthiopia in Harbu, Chulule.
Many of the staff is christian and they learn more about Christ while they work at the HopEthiopia compound, and they preach outside compound,
Hopethiopia goes to 3 churches in rotation, and they encourage the preachers and leaders, and it makes the church grow, teams give money to church to help develop. HopEthiopia helps with new ideas and training with interaction with community.
Teams visit home to home of sponsored families, and they ask questions and encourage and teach them Word of God.
Foreigners sponsor students through various project activities. They encourage students to understand Jesus and word of God and to become Christ like. The students pray with staff before they leave the compound for school.
They do outreach preaching ministry because they don’t know about Jesus’s healing power. They go into the street or market and teach.
They also bury scripture written on popsicle sticks all over compound because the Word is living! The agriculture at the compound does sway better than and grows fuller than anywhere else in the village.
“Gospel is like a baby in this community, they don’t understand well,” said Megersa. Even though they speak same language, they sometimes ignore or get upset when people preach; they slowly change and come to Christ. If you’re Ethiopian, it is easier to preach than if you were of a different race. That is the culture of Harbu, Chulule. Other areas of Ethiopia are not the same, and the Gospel received better by foreigners.
The way Megersa prays preaches and works effectively shares the Gospel. Wherever he goes he speaks the word of God to people around him. He views it as a responsibility of his. Through his teaching in Sunday school and service in the community, people learn to love Jesus. Loving is the best way to effectively share Jesus to a community.
