Starting this with a little update!!! 27 days until launch and I am PUMPED! With the help of all you lovely people I have hit the $10k deadline. That is HUGE!!!! I still have over $5,000 more to go which seems intimidating, but I have until January and we serve a big big God!
This blog has been a long time coming. Mostly because right after training camp I jumped right back into my normal life that is filled with work and people and church and work and work. This blog kept getting delayed to the point where I forgot about it completely but good news folks; HERE IT IS!
I can’t clearly remember what my expectations of training camp were but they definitely weren’t accurate. It reminded me of an intense version of mission camp which is a 5 day long camp for middle schoolers to complete before they’re allowed to go on summer mission journeys at my church. One of the main themes taught and enforced at mission camp is how to be flexible; training camp was so very similar. We had a tentative schedule of what we would be doing throughout the day; what time the sessions and meals were but aside from that we didn’t get a heads up about much. And I was fine with that. I am not a planner & I am not very structured and so having a “go with the flow” mindset was pretty simple for me (thank you mission camp and other journeys for helping too!!!)
But the very first thing we did the very first day was “check-in” and get a little list of who was on our team. Amanda and I were standing next to each other while reading it and I vividly remember her saying “Morgan, we’re on the same team” and we both had the biggest smiles on our faces. The only thing I was nervous about before training camp was whose names would be on that list and now those names are the thing that make me the most excited about this journey. Lately I’ve been learning how essential it is as Christians to surround yourself with good community and BOY ARE THESE HUMANS GOOD!!!!
After meeting the rest of my teammates and spending 24/7 with them I learned how charismatic, vulnerable, charming, compassionate, exuberant and selfless these women are. Every single woman on my team brings something unique to the table. Whether that be wisdom or humor, team Alithenos (I will explain our team name in the future) has it alllllll.
I believe it was the third night, we all went into our little tents to go to bed. I couldn’t even sleep. I remember feeling overwhelmed with content. Feeling that this is where I am supposed to be. That I was exactly where God has created me to be. That every mistake made, every friendship lost, every lesson learned was for a greater good. And with that mindset I am more than ready to roll into these next 9 months and grow and serve with my 7 new best friends. Thailand; we are coming for you in T-minus 29 days!
