Every morning when you wake up you have a choice: walk in faith or walk in flesh. But before I fully knew the Lord, I thought that walking by faith meant I could do the things I wanted and wouldn’t get “in trouble” for it. While that line of thought wasn’t wrong, it also wasn’t correct.
Being able to walk in faith doesn’t always mean that I get what I want or even that I will be correct in things. Walking in faith is trusting that the same Father who made you, is the same Savior who saved you, and the same Holy Spirit that lives in side of you. It’s the small voice in your head telling you to smile at that person; the same nudge that tells you to go to that store so someone can ask you a question and you can share the gospel with them; the same vision that you get to tell the next person you see so they know God loves them; or even the song you sing to make someone hear words in a different light.
Ultimately I’ve had two choices: to live for myself (flesh), or to live for Christ (spirit). When I chose to live for myself, I had a lot of hurt from my past, anger towards my team, and bitterness towards situations that didn’t go my way. I had encounters with God, but I never fully embraced His love for me. But when I finally laid down my wants, my desires, and picked up God’s will for my life, He abundantly blessed me with so many sweet experiences to see His glory.
When we choose to walk in faith, we get to see the hand of God moving in people. I saw this multiple times within the first 3 days of being in Ghana! A boy named Ebenezer got healed from a headache, three people on my team got healed from back pain, 4 girls grew in their walk with the Lord by worshipping him alongside me, Ebenezer got healed again from a stomach bug, and so many other amazing miracles!! But when I took a step back to see the bigger picture, had I chose to selfishly walk in the flesh, I would have missed all those opportunities for others to see Christ.
I would have robbed them from an experience that could have brought them closer to the Lord, and I didn’t want to live with that. When we choose to walk by faith, and allow the Holy Spirit to move through us, we see people in a new light. We are given eyes of the Lord that see the best in people. We are given a heart to find the one who is forgotten. We are given joy that is contagious! And what I have found out from these last 3 weeks is that when you listen to the Holy Spirit, you get blessed in ways you could never imagine. So what’s holding you back from living in the spirit daily? Do you not have enough time or space for it? Do you want to finish those last couple of episodes on Netflix? Are you tired or exhausted? Yeah, I use to feel those ways too. But the Lord has showed up in ways these past weeks like I’ve never seen him do before.
So what really is keeping you from sharing the gospel with someone? Because you may be their last chance to hear it.
