It has almost been a month since my squad & I headed from Atlanta, Georgia to Romania. In the midst of all the craziness between travel days & getting settled into a semi-routine in our house and ministry, I’ve been finding rest and joy in the little things.

Such as the little details in our house. My wall of pictures & notes from home hangs above my bed is the first and last thing I see each day. The kitchen porch where good conversations take place. Even the spiral staircase that gets you every time on the second flight. The orange and blue stripes that decorate the outside of our house. The painted skies that our Creator has a new canvas for each night, fronted by the same fun-colored houses.

The in between moments that we slow down and spend time with each other. Movie nights and people quietly laughing on their beds. Worship during the evening in the upper room. Making Sumer’s first cup of coffee and her trying it for the first time, surrounded by a group of people awaiting her reaction. Slow evenings while people catch up with their friends and family, smiling constantly as they get to hear the voices of loved ones. Surprising Sumer on her birthday with a gigantic, homemade Nutella wafer.

It’s the little things in life. Life here is simple, and oh so sweet. I didn’t think I would like living with twenty-one other people my age, but it’s been way better than I thought. Even when people are sick, there’s joy in it because it means having a sleep over in another team’s room and enjoying their presence. It may be chaotic, and a bit much for an introvert at times, but it’s worth it.
