“I can see the promise, I can see the future. You’re the God of seasons, I’m just in the winter. If all I know of harvest, is that it’s worth my patience. Then if You’re not done working, God I’m not done waiting.” – Seasons by Hillsong Worship
Just as the earth experiences spring, then summer, then fall, and finally winter – each person experiences seasons in their life cycle. Different seasons for different reasons and different responsibilities. The Lord created different seasons to help shape us, help us cope, and create us into who He intended for us to be.
I don’t know about you, but I am remarkably quick to forget that the God we serve is a God of process. The lyrics, “Like a seed in the snow, I’ve been buried to grow,” is true of life. There will be times in life when you feel the frigid and bitter face of life, where you feel lost in isolation – yet within this season of darkness, the discovery of deeper intimacy & relationship with the Lord occurs.
Fundraising has been my season of winter. Multiple times throughout this fundraising journey, I have been discouraged to the point I didn’t know whether to continue with the World Race. I’m impatient. I would have rather had all the money come in within the first few months after being accepted without me putting in effort.
But I would have missed out on God’s goodness and character. When I’ve been discouraged, He has continuously placed people in my life to support me in prayer and financially. He has placed me on a World Race squad full of people who are intentional to listen and quick to do what they can to help. I would have missed out on having to seek Him for answers and comfort.
The lyrics, “Then if You’re not done working, God I’m not done waiting,” frame the loyal promise that the song expresses. God is loyally committed to His work within us. He is the Creator and He knows the exact timing of what is perfect for each person.
In my timing, fundraising would have went quickly without any worries or hardships. By God’s timing, fundraising has drawn me closer to Him and rooted me to solely rely on Him to provide. So I choose to rest in His providence and lookout for His character within the waiting.
God is not done working – I am not done waiting – and I will stand confidently where He sends me, as I allow what He has begun to grow to completion and beauty. When I look back on the fundraising portion of the World Race, I will not be able to forget that there has been a God-ordained process to get me where God has called me.
This song is a powerful reminder that God is a God of process. In everything, every season, He is always working for good.
Although His work is often hidden in plain sight, Christians must hold to the promise that He is who He says He is and that He will do what He says He will.
