*This is the last part for awhile of this series! Hope you enjoy getting to read about the people I will be living with!*
Q1: How big are squad’s typically? Answer: The average gap year squad is 35-50 people! I believe three of the routes this year hit max capacity.
Q2: How many people are on your squad? Answer: My squad is the smallest! We have 23 people on our squad, which at first I didn’t care for. However, I now LOVE being the smallest because it’s a easier to get to know everybody and build stronger relationships. Plus, I generally like smaller groups since I’m introverted.
Q3: Have you had contact with the people on your squad? Answer: Yes! Ever since I was accepted I have been in contact with the people on my squad as they joined! We use Snapchat, GroupMe, Houseparty, etc. to stay in contact. Training camp will be my first time meeting any of them in person which is pretty exciting.
Q4: What’s the difference between a squad and a team? How are teams chosen? Answer: A squad is the entire group of people you are traveling with. For me that is Gap X! Teams are smaller groups that are assigned at training camp. I’m not sure of how the leaders choose them, but I think it has to do something with the personality test we took.
Q5: What is your squad color? Answer: Each squad is assigned a color for squad wars! Our squad color is blue which is my favorite color, so that’s pretty cool.
Q6: How do you like your squad? Answer: I LOVE them a lot and we haven’t even met in person yet! All of them are unique and bring something different to the squad. God took His time with this squad & I can’t wait to see us in action united in Christ.
Q7: What may be the hardest part of community living? Answer: I’d say the fact we are usually always around at least one other person. I like my alone time because it gives me a chance to calm down and recharge. It could also be hard that a lot of the people on my team like physical touch, but I hate physical touch. However, I pray God softens my heart and leads me love others better.
Q8: If your squad was an animal, what would it be? Answer: Fun question! I’d say a koala bear. We are small and that’s kinda cuddly like a koala, but we are full of competition (yes, even me). And I don’t know if you’ve ever seen videos, but koalas are actually terrifying.
