*This is part two of my Q&A series! I hope you enjoy reading this and learning more about the next part of this journey!*
Q1: What is training camp? Answer: Training Camp is an intense 10-day experience where me and my teammates will meet to connect deeply with the Lord and each other. Through teaching, prayer, scenarios, and relationship building, racers will step out of fear and shame and into intimacy with the Father. We’ll also receive training on how to partner with God to establish His Kingdom on Earth.
Q2: Why is training camp challenging? Answer: Training camp is designed to be challenging because the staff at Adventures in Missions wants to prepare us for the road ahead. They will put you in scenarios designed to stretch us, refine us, and bring us closer to Christ.
Q3: Where is training camp and when does it take place? Answer: Training camp takes place in Gainesville, Georgia! It takes place July 9-19 for the gap year squads launching in September!
Q4: Why are you headed to training camp a day early? Answer: I am starting to drive to Georgia on July 7 so I can be there a day early for the storyteller workshop! This workshop is led by previous racers who will give us lessons about how to be a better storyteller whether that’s through photography, blogging, or vlogs! I am super excited to learn how to use my passion for photography to glorify the Lord and tell the stories of His children.
Q5: What is your biggest fear going into training camp? Answer: My biggest fear going into training camp is the fitness hike. We have to hike 2.2 miles in 38 minutes with our backpacks on and packed up. I’m not the most athletic person and if you add the Georgia humidity into the factors above, then you can imagine how I might feel during the hike.
Q6:What are you most excited for during training camp? Answer: I’m most excited to listen to and learn from the teachings! I love hearing what the Lord places on people’s hearts to share with others and encourage them. Teachings that will prepare us for the journey ahead of us and impact our relationships with the Lord.
Q7: Is there anybody you are looking forward to meeting at training camp? Answer: A lot of people actually! This will be the first time I meet anybody from my squad in person, I’ll meet my squad mentor and advisor, some friends from other squads, Bernadette, Joel, my team & squad leaders, & many more people!
Q8: What are squad wars? Answer: Squad wars is a competition between all six squads that helps with squad bonding! It teaches us how to work together, use our skills and talents, and gets our creativity going! It started a bit over a month ago and we have had challenges including creating an intro video, filling out our profile, etc. Currently are challenge is to write blog posts. Hence the numerous blog posts in the past few days.
Q9: How long after training camp will you launch? Answer: I will get home from training camp roughly on July 21 & I have a bit over a month until I launch (God willing) with my squad to our first country, Romania!
