The Bible is full of symbolism, it’s one of the ways God speaks to us through His word. Daniel was given the gift to interpret the symbolism in the dream on King Nebuchadnezzar, God was speaking in symbolism. He continues to do that today. One of the ways God speaks to us is through the symbolism of color.
Colors do have meaning in the Bible. It is important to note that colors can have multiple meanings. There is no rule that every time you see a certain color it means one specific thing. You must put it into context of what God is saying and doing. Below is what I have observed in Guatemala during the past month and what God is speaking over this country.
Guatemala — a land of vibrancy.
The skies are a new canvas for the Maker to paint a masterpiece on each morning and night. Shades of faint yellow, light purple, and various pinks are common in Your palette. Yellow in the Bible is associated with fire, which in turn, has always been associated with the purification process. Light purple represents the care of the Father. Pink represents new life. A declaration across the skies of what God is doing in this country — intentionally refining the hearts of the people in Guatemala and restoring to bring new life to this land.
Dark volcanoes can be seen from our hammocks at the mission base. From what can be seen, it looks like a large black mass that covers a wide area of land. Often used to describe evil and gloom in the Bible — words of death. Thankfully, God is bringing restoration to this land. Active volcanoes still erupt with flowing embers of orange and amber. Colors that represent deliverance and God’s power. White smoke rises to the heavens, symbolizing righteousness and victory over darkness. Freedom reigns in this place.
The women of Guatemala wear traditional clothing called trajes which consists of a hupil (blouse) and corte (skirt). Fuchsia and purple are commonly found woven into the traditional dress. The joy of the people here is represented by fuchsia and purple represents how God sees His children, as royalty. The image of royalty in 1 Peter, is to remind us of our identities as sons and daughters of God; that we are heirs to Jesus’ reward and have been given authority to issue decrees in the Kingdom and to do God’s business on the earth like Jesus did.
“You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” – 1 Peter 2:9
Guatemala is a nation filled with sons and daughters of the King. A land of vibrancy, a fine-detailed masterpiece, that is undeniably marked by the Creator. His promises are being fulfilled for he is steadfast and faithful. God is taking back the hills with praise.
