A few nights ago, as I was falling asleep I had what I thought was a super vivid dream. In this dream, I was standing, overlooking rice fields. With me was a lady wearing pink and she offered to take a photo of me in front of the field. After she took the photo I got the opportunity to pray over her.
I immediately woke up from the dream and checked to see if any of my teammates in my room were awake. Allie was awake so I told her about the dream and told her we had to go on a walk the next day to see if we could find this lady in pink in the field. Mind you, I’ve never felt led to “reenact” any other dream I’ve had so this was something new.
The next day rolled around and I honestly forgot about this lady in pink. But we ended going up on a walk nonetheless. When we were about to leave, I remembered my dream. I told the rest of the girls with me, and we began to pray as we walked. We prayed that whatever or whoever God wanted us to encounter would be super obvious and that we would be bold enough to go after it.
Our village 7/11 is about half a mile down the road with lots of rice fields along the way, so we began walking in that direction. No sign of a woman in pink or anyone who wanted conversation. So, we headed back towards home. Scouting out everyone wearing even a sliver of pink or anyone with a welcoming smile.
*all along this walk Allie is picking wildflowers making herself a 7/11 cup bouquet*
A lady and her daughter came out to their gate to say hi and we struck up a conversation. I asked (in my terrible Thai) if we could pray for them and immediately got shut down. Soooo we kept walking towards home.
At this point, our walk had turned into exploring our new home and we had given up the hunt for this woman in pink. Our squad leader, Kristen, saw a random neighborhood road that looked intriguing so we ventured up. On this neighborhood road, we met a lady who spoke some English and was holding a baby in a fedora (win, win). As it turned out, a teacher from the school we are working at lived right next door. In usual Thai fashion, we were led to her front door. She came outside with her son and… she was wearing pink. She asked where we were walking and then offered to walk us to her family’s… rice field.
*She loved Allie’s 7/11 bouquet and helped find cool additions along the walk*
The rice fields we had previously seen were beautiful but this one she walked us to was something straight from Heaven’s picture books. When we got to the fields she asked if she could take a photo of us. We received the grand tour of the rice fields, her aunt’s strawberry fields, and the beauty of the back-village roads. All along the walk we got to deepen our relationship with her and her son.
Okay God. So far, we’re sitting at three for three. Pink, rice fields, and a photo.
After the walk, we went back to her house to hang out and talk. I played with her son and they gave us a snack. As we were talking, we found out that she had been home all day with a headache. AH what a perfect transition to ask if we could pray for her. I asked her if it was alright, we got the yes, and then we had the opportunity to lay hands on her in prayer. We prayed for her headache and invited God to fill her house with His love.
Yep. Alright God. Four for four. Pink, rice fields, a photo, and a prayer.
Asking the Lord for “divine appointments” is something that we ask for daily. But this day was a reminder that those appointments require action. He’s not going to just lay them in our laps. We need to actively go out and show up. Being the first foreigners in this part of town is such a special opportunity. We are their first glimpse of the rest of the world. I want to be an example of Christ’s light and love. So, stay tuned for more stories of us showing up for His glory.
