Hola from Costa Rica! This month Team RITz is joined by Matt, our squad leader, and we’re serving Lighthouse Church in Rio Azul. This town is on the outskirts of San Jose near where the landfill use to be. People moved here to sort through the trash for income but since the landfill has been covered, they are now are experiencing extreme poverty and suffer drug and alcohol abuse. We live in the church and by doing so get to live beside the people we serve this month. Although there are hardships in this area, I already see the joy of the Lord shining through. This past week we did the prep work for stairs that will benefit this community carved into a hill and as we passed buckets of rocks and boulders to our worksite, my new amigo, Louis, came running out of his house barefoot with a smile eager to join in the work. It’s moments like these that I have to give glory to the Lord for the love that He pours out on all of His children. As we move into the rest of the month, we’ll be helping with projects around the church and working with the feeding and education programs on the weekend. Please add Rio Azul to your prayers this month!
