Ok folks,
I have some big news to announce but I have to wait to officially announce what my next steps will be, because of some last minute changes are in the works (that I’m really excited about)… so be ready for that soon!
In the meantime I thought it would be cool to share just a few of the fun stories that I have been making these past few months on team Sozo, because things are coming to an end soon, and taking the time to remember is important. But really, this blog doesn’t have a purpose (is that bad for me to admit?), I think more than anything as I enjoyed taking the time to reflect on the past few months with these people, and through you might enjoy some of the high-lights too.
I guess the first thing I should tell you is that our team name isn’t Sozo, it’s actually The Poopie Chickens of Team Sozo. (If that doesn’t set the tone for how the rest of these stories are going to go, I don’t know what will.)
(haha what is personal space)
One of my favorite memories comes from our first month together as a team (all the way back in Cambodia), our team wanted to do something nice for each other for Christmas. The only problem was that the nearest store was several towns away and we didn’t have any transportation. Solution: Secret Stolen Santa.
On Christmas Eve we all drew a name out of a hat, and were charged with the task of trying to successfully steal something of value from that person, wrap it using some of our extra wrapping paper from ministry, and place it under our fake decorative Christmas tree with out the person knowing. Needless to say it was a blast.
What were some of my favorite things stolen?
- My passport
- Charla’s toothbrush
- Hunter’s passport
- Emily’s sleeping pad (AKA her bed)
- Everything Matt owns
- Kat’s Medicine
Every so often, my team decides to have themed dinners. Sometimes that has looked like dinners where we only speak Spanish, ASL or in whispers. We’ve has musical dinners, and silent dinners, and just about everything in between. During one of my favorite themed dinners, we decided to get each other new identities, complete with backstories. My new given identity was Savannah Jones, or SJ, as she is called by her friends. She is a dog-lover from somewhere along the Southern East coast, though not Florida, and she is a sorority girl. There was also Donavan, Virginia, Holly, Jordan and Luke. (Try and guess who was who).
Yesterday morning my team played tele-stration (AKA Telephone pictionary). How it works is that one person writes a few words or a phrase and passes it to the next person in the circle, who has to draw a picture of those words. They then pass that picture on to the next person who has to write a few words to describe the picture, and then the next person has to draw a picture based off that new description, and so on until it goes all the way around the circle.
Here is an example of one from when my team played this morning:
Notice that ‘girl with long hair + cat’ has become my identifier- I won’t pretend to be upset about it… (Through I am happy that that last drawing was unrecognizable)
This is my last month with team Sozo, and I guess I’m feeling just a little bit sentimental, but I’m going to miss living and goofing off with my poopie chickens.
I guess I should explain- for month 11 each person on my squad was allowed to choose our ministry, which means that the teams are getting shaken up a bit. As sad as I am for Sozo to end, I am so excited for what this next month will look like! I will be working with Cru again (for my third month in a row!)
To end, I thought it would be appropriate for me to include one of my favorite quotes from each person.
Charla
Quote: “Satan is working through me… you know when you say something and immediately regret it?”
Emily
Quote: “Look, our rivals” (as we walked past a couple of mormon missionaries)
Kat
Quote: “Who wants some of Emily’s goodies?… that was not meant to be dirty.”
Matt
Quote: “Prioritwize”
Hunter
Quote: “Yo vivo en el bano” (which translates to ‘I live in the bathroom’)
Thanks for the Mems Chickies, it’s been a blast.
Much Love,
Morgan
