You know that feeling when you plug in your earbuds and play music with the volume all the way up, and you’re in your own little world, blocking out the noises of everything around you? Yeah, well, my team and I had that but with a twist— earbud worship! Every Monday night we have a time of worship together. This past week, we decided to spice it up and each person put in their earbuds and played their own songs.. and sang it OUT LOUD. And when I say out loud, I mean REALLY LOUD.
It’s kinda hilarious though because if you walked into our bedroom (which is currently a school classroom) you would see a bunch of girls belting different songs terribly off key and lifting their hands in praise.. aka looking like fools because there isn’t actually any music being played out loud and we’re all singing different songs so it’s a little chaotic. BUT nonetheless, it’s still worship and God would call it a beautiful song! I mean, we truly were giving our all to God and singing so freely because no one could hear each other! It was awesome! It was so fun!
…….. until…….
Our squad leader, Marissa, walks into our room and gets our attention just to say…. There’s a huge group of strangers in the room directly above us having a meeting… and THEY ALL HEARD US UGLY SINGING EVERY WORD OF OUR SONGS HAHAHAHA. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE THEIR FACES BEING LIKE WHAATTT DA HECKK IS GOING ON DOWN THERE?! HAHAHA
So, for the sake of not embarrassing ourselves any more than we already had, and to not disturb their meeting, we went outside and ran into an open field and had earbud worship out there!! Now NO ONE could actually hear us and we just looked like a bunch of fools spread out dancing & singing to no music. Jokes on them, we were BLASTING the music in our earbuds and having a ball with Jesus. I’d say that night was one of the best feelings— with the wind blowing, the sun setting, and standing in such a beautiful place God created & praising Him for it & everything He has done & will continue to do. If I could sum up how I felt in one would it would be FREE.
So If you’ve never tried singing a song while your earbud volume is all the way up, I 10/10 recommend it. You can’t even hear your own voice and when you can just have fun with no cares about whether you sound good or not, its 10x better! And if you need a song recommendation for what to listen to while doing this, I recommend “Head to the Heart” by United Pursuit. The chorus about 2 minutes in HITS DIFFERENT and it’s perfect for headphone worship. The verse goes, “there’s no shame in looking like a fool when I give You what I can’t keep and take a hold of You”
