“Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good. His love endures forever.”
Psalm 136:1
There is something that happens to your soul when you enter a country with no plan, something that causes your spirit to worry or be anxious of the unknown. This was me at the being of this month. My team’s route got changed last minute from Botswana to Namibia, a country I had never even heard of. To add to the stress of changing routes my team was Unsung Hero’s. We arrive in the country with no ministry host, no place to stay, no idea where we will sleep, no food, only our reliance on God to provide, and boy did God provide.
“Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good. His love endures forever.”
Psalm 136:1
Divine appointments. Ever heard of them? Well they are these situations that happen that can only have been appointed by God. In the case of my team it is a women Aaron sat beside on the bus to Namibia. She told Aaron of a friend of hers, Vickie that he could contact. So my team gets off the bus in Windhoek and just starts walking. We have nowhere to stay for the night, no food with us, no idea where anything is in this new city, we just started walking. We find an Internet café and get to looking for places to sleep for the night. Aaron gets on the phone with this Vickie lady his bus friend told him about. About 3 hours later we have a meeting with a man named Ron, pastor of Emmanuel Church. Well we get taxis to the place we will meet Ron and wait. When Ron arrives Josh and Aaron sit down with him, two hours later they join our team and tell us that Ron is the pastor of a large church here in Windhoek, he made a call to some people in his church and we have a place to stay.
“Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good. His love endures forever.”
Psalm 136:1
Flash forward to later that evening we are greeted by a sweet couple, Joan and Deter. They drove 40 minutes from their home to fetch us and drive us back to their place. We arrive at their house to see a large piece of land. On their land is their house, a separate kitchen building and 2 other buildings filled with bunk beds, the picture perfect location to house a World Race team. They work with a community near their house called 5 Rand, it is the slum of the area. Joan makes daily visits to the nursing home in town, also helps run and disciples teachers at a school for dump kids (kids that literally live in the dump). Somehow we arrive in Namibia with no plan and after 6 hours we end up with a couple who have such a diverse ministry and accommodations to honestly house a whole squad. God is good.
“Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good. His love endures forever.”
Psalm 136:1
That isn’t the end of this divine appointment story. Ron knows people everywhere. He set us up to head to the coast of Namibia, in Swakopmund to meet the pastor of the Emmanuel Church there. They just so happened to be holding a youth camp that weekend, so we joined in. Again, free accommodations, food, and fellowship. We made lifelong friends in the people there and the kids at the camp. We spent the next 5 days just enjoying the city. We made friends everywhere we went. I know the names and stories of at least 10 people in the market there. The lady who owns the Slow Town Roasters coffee shop knew I would be coming in. So far in Namibia all I have seen is God’s Goodness.
“Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good. His love endures forever.”
Psalm 136:1
Unsung Hero’s can be scary. It can feel lonely, not having a ministry to call home for the month. I can say that I feel more at home in this country than any other I’ve been to. I have more relationships here than anywhere else. Walking into a foreign country with no contacts, no plan, just faith can be scary. I have learned that when you walk in faith like this and ask God about every situation and moment He always comes through. He wants to show us His glory and mightiness, we just have to live and walk in a way that gives Him room to do that.
God is good all the time. And all the time God is good.
“Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good. His love endures forever.” Psalm 136:1
