My 24th Birthday is one I will never forget.
First off my ministry for the first 2 weeks in Haiti has been to serve a week long mission team from the states. Not what I had in mind, but that will be a blog all it’s own.
I wake up like any other day and head to have breakfast. Which is home made biscuits and gravy, eggs, hash browns, and bacon. I kid you not I almost cried! So this team and my team loaded up bright and early for church. This is my first time at a Haitian church. On the race it has been really hard to connect during church services because usually the music and the message are not in English. Well the music at this church was not in English, but that was some of the best worship I have had in a long time. I got to meet with the Lord. There was a full band of clarinets, trumpets, tubas, pianos, and several vocalist. It was some of the most beautiful, heart felt worship I have experienced on the race. I love when you are worshipping God and He meets you there and you can feel Him in the room moving about with joy at the sound of His praise! It was awesome. During the service the Pastor called me up in front of the whole church and the trumpet player played the Happy Birthday song. I am not going to lie total fear hit me when he said, Sister Morgan, can you come up front please. I thought I was going to have to come up with some sermon right on the spot or something, but instead it was a blessing.
The most bizarre thing is at the end of the service there was a wedding. So I got to sit front row to a Haitian wedding on my b-day.
We left church and went to the Pastor’s house for lunch where another WR team was. I got to spend time with my friends and catch up, they even brought out a birthday cake. I spent the rest of the afternoon resting and just getting so much love from friends back home.
Mandy from the short term mission team and I shared the same birthday.
This is the most unique birthday I have ever had. What I love the most about it is I spent several days before feeling selfish, wanting the day to be all about me like it is at home. I wanted the day to be extravagant so I could have a cool story to tell like some of the racers have had on their birthdays. God had other things in mind. I got to spend my birthday praising God. I got to spend it in His presence, I got to see the marriage of a man and a women, Christ and the church. I got to not spend the day praising myself, but praising God for who He is. That is why my birthday was so amazing this year. Yes I got to spend it in Haiti, but above all I got to spend it with God. Thank you so much for all of the birthday wishes!
