Last weekend, I got to go to Pittsburgh to celebrate the marriage of Danny & Sheri Weiss! They were both on my squad this past year and it was the wedding of a lifetime. 39 people from my squad were there and we celebrated for 9 hours straight! The weekend was full of the Lord, love, and laughter.
Side note: Keep Danny and Sheri in your prayers as they have purchased a one way ticket overseas and are back serving God on the mission field!
Back to my blog…
To get to the wedding, I got to road trip with a few of the ladies from my squad. The drive from Georgia to Pennsylvania in early November has to be the most gorgeous road trip I have ever been on. The mauve shades of orange, yellow, and red encompass every tree. The rolling hills and mountains seem to go on forever. The fall air is so crisp you could almost taste it. The sun beams down just enough to warm your toes and brighten your face.
It was the perfect day for a long drive, spotify, hot cocoa, and good company.
I caught myself stuck in the moment, wishing that every day looked like this. Autumn is just stunning and the trees were displaying themselves like proud peacocks. Why are they only this pretty for a few weeks? Why didn’t God design them to stay this beautiful for the majority of the year, instead of the drab green they are covered in during most seasons?
“Morgan, if I would have designed them to display these stunning colors all year round, would you still appreciate them?”
Honestly, I probably wouldn’t. They would most likely get placed on an incredibly long list with all the other things I take for granted in a day.
Off the coast of Canada there is a place called the Bay of Fundy. Each day more than 100 billion tons of seawater flows in and out of the bay, which is more than the combined flow of all the world’s fresh water rivers! That’s a drastic tide cycle. I was talking to Nicole (my beloved K-Squad Canadian) and she was telling me how people from all over the world come to see the tides at the Bay of Fundy. However, she said that the people who live there are so used to it, that they don’t really even see it as a big deal. They don’t see how magnificent the Bay of Fundy is, because they are used to it.
Is that how I am with God?
I spent half a year in a continent filled with communism and false gods. I saw desperation, darkness, and demonic influence roam the streets of Asia. I talked to people who have never heard of the one true God.
Yet, in the midst of a hopeless place, there were Christians. I heard countless stories from people that had been beaten near death for their faith. People who were on fire for God. People who would rather break the law and die than live without Christ. People with so much joy, fulfillment, and perseverance. People that put my faith to shame.
Am I so used to the light that I don’t appreciate the fact that I am not in darkness? Do I take advantage of the fact that I can openly worship my Father without fear of repercussions? Do I see His beauty in every sunny, rainy, and overcast day? Do I tell Him how amazing He is in every circumstance?!
God, captivate me. Open my eyes to your beauty every day. Help me to never forget how amazing you are.
