Vietnam was our final stop on the World Race, and it totally captured my heart. From the delicious food, the motorbikes zipping around the round-a-bouts, and the people who greeted you with bright smiles. It was all incredible. Upon our arrival we were asked to used extreme caution when talking with locals or even tourists about who we were and why we were in the beach town of Danang, Vietnam. We were told that there were informants everywhere and that our conversations could be heard by any of these informants without us even knowing it, and we did not want to endanger our ministry contact. We were encouraged to go out to the beach and to the markets and restaurants to make friends and show the love of Jesus by building relationships with the people we encountered.
This is something that in America we would not have to think about, it was very hard to adapt to the caution factor but our team quickly got the hang of it. Some had prayer encounters on the beach and others of us were working with a group of young adults who were eager to improve their english. We would sit at a coffee shop twice a week to spend time in conversation to help them improve. In my American opinion, there english was actually quite good, but to them it was never good enough. I tried to answer their grammar questions but mostly I just gave them an embarrassing blank stare when I tried to answer their grammar questions. HA! It was a challenge for me!
I found a new love and that is photography! Danang was a beautiful city with a lot of inspiration and a dear friend let me borrow her camera to capture some beautiful things. After our month was complete we travelled south near Saigon to meet our squad for our final debrief before heading home. We celebrated with more breakthrough and deliverance and we ate a fancy last meal together before our last two days of travel where we would part ways and head home. We flew through Bejing, which was very exciting for me since I dream of travelling to China one day! This was my first glimpse of China and even though it was from an airplane window I will hold on to that for now 🙂
We arrived in LAX on Nov. 24th and from there I flew north to get to Stockton. I was greeted by my three dearest friends and my beautiful niece with signs and tears. It was a long year to be away from my beautiful sisters in Christ. After a few days of some much needed down time it is almost time to start thinking about this next season of mine.
