On Thursday the 19th I got a call that dramatically changed my plans for this last week. My sister was offered a job near Santa Barbara and wanted to come down and check it out, see if it was a good fit. On Friday she flew down and we left that night around 8 pm for Santa Barbara. Molly and I make our mom crazy because we always leave at night for road trips. It was amazing to have the time and ability to leave at a moments notice and be there for my sister! We returned on Sunday the October 22nd and have spent the last week enjoying time together. She even helped me clean out and pack up everything in my room. If anyone in San Diego needs to buy anything, it’s all for sale!!!

God has given me this amazing gift of flexibility right now and I am taking full advantage of it by going to Mexico next week. I’ll be there from Saturday November 4th – Friday November 10th. My goal for the time there is to work on my Spanish and serve in any way I can. I’ve arranged with Efrain, a pastor and friend of mine, to stay with a family from Nueva Vida, the church I have been leading mission trips to for the last two years. It’s also the church I worked at on my first ever mission trip after my freshman year of high school (see my bio for more information.)

Jenn, Efrain, and me at Nueva Vida Church on a mission trip with the youth last April.

Taking the time now to work on my Spanish will help me be better prepared for the 4 months we will be spending in Spanish speaking countries. I will learn a lot faster by going down now because I won’t have other English speakers to depend on.

I’m so excited about this opportunity but also a little nervous about this trip and would appreciate your prayers for the following…

  • Safety and logistical details to go well since I am traveling alone.
  • That God will open my mind and help me learn as much Spanish as possible.
  • That I am a blessing to the family I am staying with and the church.
  • That I will be both attentive and responsive to what God wants me to do during the week.

Thanks so much for your support and prayers!
