Growing up, 4th of July was no small holiday. Every year my mom would dress my sister and I up in our flag outfits, (yes we really had flag outfits including flag socks) throw us into the back of the station wagon, hand us little flags and pump marches as loud as the car speakers would allow. We would sing along with the marches at the top of our lungs. For anyone wondering how you sing along with a march, there are no words required, just da, da, da, da, da, while you put one fist in the air and swing it back and forth. From there we would drive down to the park and stand in a long line while waiting the amazing pancake breakfast. It was one of my favorite days of the entire year.
This 4th of July we are recreating the pancake breakfast, only this time it’s a pancake picnic on the beach along with a rummage sale and hotdog lunch all to raise support for the upcoming Swaziland mission trip that I’m leading. On the trip we will be working with parents who are dying of AIDS to create legacy books for their children, and we will be running a sports ministry called Kidsgames. I can’t wait to get back to Africa this summer, the team I’m leading is amazing.Anyone in the area is invited to stop by our Aid for Africa pancake breakfast, hotdog feed and garage sale between 7 am and 2 pm on July 4th. It will be the last shindig at our old house… 150 Hemlock Ave. A, Carlsbad, CA.
If for some truly unfortunate reason you have other plans and can’t participate in the festivities (or our out of state) but want to support me in leading this trip to Africa and other trips like it click the Support Me link at the left. My goal through this pancake breakfast and online giving is to raise $1000 towards this trip by getting 100 people to give $10 each. I think it’s more than possible.
Through traveling I’ve realized how thankful I am to live in this country and celebrate the freedom we do have!
