Turning Point (10/11/12)
Today was a turning point. I feel that I have finally arrived in Haiti. Today we had a full day, in which we visited several places via tap tap (a small bus with no doors).  We proceeded to fit 19 girls and 4 adult males into it and succeeded. It was one of the moments where you knew that you were on the World Race.
One of the places we visited was the epicenter of the earthquake that took place January 12, 2010.  It was incredible to see the area and talk to its residents.
Our time was mostly spent in prayer. We would go and pray for clinics, churches, small towns, children and teachers.  We even spent time praying for specifically for the land.  Specifically, that it would birth new life out of the rubble.
A specific teaching that is so special to me is one about building solid foundations.  When one wants to build a structure, it usually takes time. You want to find a place that is sturdy and has a strong platform on which to build.  If one is to build on a frail, unsteady foundation, it might work momentarily, but it’s inevitable that the structure will crumble and fall.  This metaphor is a lot like our relationship with the Lord. One can build good things on top of the bad but it’s to be expected that when a storm comes or something terrible happens that the good they’ve built crumbles and is of no help. It is not until one removes sin, the things they’ve put above the Lord, and repents that one can actually start building on a strong foundation. So when storms come and dark periods come in a person’s life they can stand firm in the Lord.
So maybe, it’s good that the earthquake happened because it’s a clean slate for this country to build a strong foundation on the Lord.
1st Corinthians 3:11 “For no one can lay a foundation other than which is laid in Jesus Christ”.
